What are grasslands?
Grasslands cover an area where vegetation is dominated by grasses. They roughly cover 30 to 40% of Earths area and occur naturally on all continents except Antartica.Less than 10% of worlds grasslands are protected as per various reports.
According to Stiling 1999; " A grassland is a region with Annual average precipitation of 25 to 75 cm to support grass "
Types of Grasslands
There are two main types of grasslands; Tropical and Temperate grasslands.
Examples of temperate grasslands include Eurasian steppes, North American prairies, and Argentine pampas.
Tropical grasslands include the hot savannas of sub-Saharan Africa and northern Australia.
